Author's Notes
Agraharam 92 in the 100 Agraharams Project
Tharekkad is the 92nd Agraharam in the 100 Agraharams project. Though the title I chose was the 100Agraharams of Palakkad, there may be atleast 133 when we hope to complete the project. It may include a few "otthamadoms" (independent homes in a community or village of villas) as well.
The village in the heart of Palakkad town is one of the original 18 settlements / agraharams in the area.
The village has the Neerattu Ganapathy in the West alongside a beautiful pond, Vishalakshi Sametha Vishwanathaswamy in the East, Simhanadha Bhagavaty in the South and Mariamman in the South East.
I think before the 100 feet Malampuzha road was formed, the village was one big enclave. But today the 100 feet road cuts across separating the Neerattu ganapathy from the rest of the village.
On 25th to 30th December 2025 the temple will be witness to Sri Rudram chanting in what is called as Ati Rudram. This will comprise an elaborate Vedic Shiva worship - which comprises 11 Maha Rudrams: Namakam recited 1,331 times and Chamakam 121 times, seeking purification, peace, health, and prosperity with various offerings. Thus a total of 14641 Namakams and 1331 Chamakams with 121 Rithwiks participating. The Atirudra Maha Yajnam would be held under the guidance and direction of Acharya Bhramashree Venkateswara Deekshidhar.
