Padur-East
Padur comprises two agraharams: Padur-West (also known as Padoor Padinjare Gramam) and Padur-East, locally called Kazhani Puthan Gramam. The presiding deity at Padur-West is Gopalakrishna Swamy, while Sri Venkitachalapathy is worshipped at Padur-East.
The major festival at Kazhani Puthan Gramam is the Mandala Vilakku and Brahmothsavam, observed annually in the month of Dhanu (typically from the 23rd to 28th, with the 27th being the main day for Mandala Vilakku). Both agraharams celebrate their festivals with great devotion and traditional fervor. The Acharyal for the Utsavams is Brahmasri Kumarapuram Rama Govindha Bhattacharyar.
Padur is also renowned for its community of professional astrologers known as Panickers, who traditionally use the title "Padur Panicker" (Kalarikkal). The village houses the temple of Sree Panickanar, believed to be an incarnation of Lord Ayyappa. The annual Padur Vela festival held here marks the beginning of the Vela-Pooram season in Palakkad. Owing to its rich heritage, Padur is often referred to as "The Land of the Palakkad King."
Radhe Krishna!
