Ayakkad
When I hear residents of Ayakkad speak of Sri Sharma Mashu, I am reminded of the sacrifices our forefathers made to establish institutions that would nurture great citizens.
I recently read that CA High School, or Chami Aiyer High School, Ayakkad, was founded by Chami Aiyer, and that his son, Sri Sharma — fondly known as Sharma Mashu — was honored for his contributions as a distinguished teacher by Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, then President of India.
I wish more agraharams would focus on building institutions of learning that can shape thousands of bureaucrats, technocrats, entrepreneurs, skilled artisans, and teachers — uplifting communities and helping preserve the agraharams through the prosperity they bring.
On the other hand, wasteful spending without thoughtfully building a strong corpus will only hasten the steady decline of these centuries-old villages, painstakingly established by migrating Brahmins.
Radhe Krishna!
