History
Parakkadavu is about 30 kms north west of Palakkad Junction. Just south of Karimpuzha it is located on the banks of the Kunthi river. The speciality of the place is the location where the river turns uttaravahihi - northward turn or journey. Kunthi river in popular stories is the place where Kunthi devi, the mother of pandavas had a bath and so it is named as Kunthippuzha. However the actual etymology originates from the abundance of the PalSambrani or Kunkuliyam trees which in Malayalam is called Kunthirikkam. The river merges with Bharathapuzha which ultimately joins the Arabian sea at Ponnani. The river sustains a tropical evergreen ecosystem that houses endangered species like the lion-tailed macaque.
