Thinniyam is less than 30 kilometers from Srirangam. Sri Subramanyam of Vettakorumakan Kavu confirms that the residents of the Agraharam arrived from Thinniyam centuries ago when the Brahmins of the Cauvery delta migrated westward through the Palghat Pass. This is excellent information and very few agraharams today know for sure their origin.
"Vettakkorumakan is the son of Shiva by his consort Parvati, born when he assumed the form of a Kirata (hunter) to deliver a weapon known as Pashupatastra to Arjuna. He is mostly and exclusively worshipped in Malabar region of Kerala."
Wiki has an article which differentiates "Vettaikkorumakan" - a son from a hunt, and "Vettakkarumakan" - deity of hunting. The article states "The Kerala Bhasha Institute has published a well-researched book titled 'Vettakkarumakan' by Y.V. Kannan.
I see in Google Maps that the primary Agraharam temple in Thinniyam is Santana Gopalaswamy and however the perpendicular street / gramam has the Subramanya Swamy which is mentioned by Sri Subramanyam. I wonder if the practice of doing rituals to the Dharmasasta as per Vaishnavaite Sampradaya is due to the origins from the Thinniyam agraharam which has the Santana Gopalaswamy.
The major famines that occurred in Madras in the 18th century are famines of 1729-33, 1781-82, 1790-92 and scarcity of 1799. So it could be that the waves of migration were a result of the famines and welcoming Kings in Palghat.
There were several achans who ruled Palghat. Kombi Achan (c. 1425 AD) who is credited with building the famous Viswanatha Swamy Temple in Kalpathy Agraharam did so when a Lakshmi Ammal gave him a BanaLingam to be installed. I presume that there were Tamil Brahmins existing in the area (Kalpathy agraharam I assume should have existed during the same time). So I deduce that the famine migration would have happened during the reign of Raman Kombi Achan 1756 AD. So it could be that the Agraharam of Vettakkorumakan kavu was set up 250 years ago as confirmed by the residents in the video.
