Agraharam 72 in the 100 Agraharams Project
Anchumoorthy Mangalam - Vadakke Gramam
It is truly heartwarming to hear from an agraharam where the temple had not been functioning for decades. A prasnam revealed to Sri Krishnamoorthy the need to reconnect with his roots. With the support of many well-wishers, the temple has come alive again—bringing the community together, lighting a new spark of hope and faith.
Through the 100 Agraharams project, we are hearing more and more such stories—of agraharams that fell silent after the 1970 land reforms but are now slowly coming back to life.
Even though this village has just three Brahmin homes today, it is touching to see how the entire Hindu community joined hands to revive what was once a 300-home Brahmin settlement.
I really liked how Sri Krishnamoorthy explained the Gothram, the Vedic tradition, and the history of the idol so clearly. His calm, factual storytelling gives us a deep sense of how this village is rising again. Sri Siva Subramanian also shared lovely insights, including the saying “Padur Jananam, Mangalam Maranam,” that marks the beginning and end of temple festivals in that region.
Mangalam Vadakke Gramam is a shining example of how the divinity in a temple finds its own way to be remembered. And it is thanks to the sacrifices of our ancestors—who built these agraharams with such effort and devotion—that Dharma has survived all these years. It is now our duty to protect and preserve these sacred settlements—whatever it takes.
Radhe Krishna!
Warm regards,
