Author's Notes
*Agraharam 76 in the 100 Agraharams Project*
*Mekkanamkulam*
Sri Venkateeswaran lives here with his wife Pushpa. Along with a few others, they are holding on to a slender thread of hope—that those with roots in this agraharam will return one day and bring it back to life.
I like how Sri Venkateeswaran explains the name: "mel kunnil kulam"—a pond on top of a hill. A beautiful and fitting name.
Agraharams like Mekkanamkulam should be on the must-visit list for anyone who cares about our heritage. It still carries the quiet charm and spirit of our traditions.
I wonder if all the agraharams of Palakkad can come together and create a common fund to revive places like this, which have slowly fallen out of support. I have seen how the Gaud Saraswat Brahmins (GSBs) support each other and uplift their communities. Maybe something like that can work wonders here too.
Radhe Krishna!
Warm regards,
Sriram (Hari)
